The brief

About West-Pokot County

West Pokot County is situated in Kenya's Rift Valley region bordering Turkana, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, Baringo and Uganda. Kapenguria serves as the county headquarters. The county features rugged mountains, valleys and semi-arid lowlands supporting both farming and pastoralism. The Pokot community forms the majority of the population. Agriculture, livestock keeping, beekeeping and trade are the principal economic activities. Farmers grow maize, beans, potatoes, fruits and vegetables in the highlands. Historically Kapenguria is famous as the place where the Kapenguria Six were detained during Kenya's struggle for independence, making the county an important symbol of the liberation movement.
