Uasin Gishu County lies in Kenya's North Rift region, bordering Trans Nzoia, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, Kericho, Nandi and Kakamega counties. Eldoret City is the county headquarters and a major commercial, educational and transport hub. Fertile plains, moderate temperatures and reliable rainfall support intensive farming. The county is predominantly inhabited by the Kalenjin community alongside many other Kenyan groups. Agriculture drives the economy through maize, wheat, dairy farming, horticulture and poultry production. Eldoret also hosts manufacturing industries, universities and healthcare institutions. Internationally renowned distance runners have emerged from the county. Historically, Uasin Gishu has been one of Kenya's leading grain-producing regions and continues to contribute significantly to commerce, education and sports.
