Taita–Taveta County is located in southeastern Kenya, bordering Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Makueni, Kajiado and Tanzania. Voi is the county headquarters. The landscape ranges from the fertile Taita Hills to the expansive Tsavo plains, creating varied climatic conditions. The population is mainly composed of the Taita and Taveta communities together with other Kenyan groups. Agriculture, livestock farming, wildlife tourism, mining and trade are the principal economic activities. Farmers grow maize, beans, vegetables, fruits, coffee and sisal, while gemstone mining contributes to local incomes. Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks make the county one of Kenya's leading tourism destinations. Historically, Taita–Taveta was an important trade corridor and witnessed major battles during the First World War, leaving a rich historical heritage alongside its outstanding natural attractions.
