About Siaya County
Siaya County is located in western Kenya along the northern shores of Lake Victoria, bordering Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu and Homa Bay counties. Siaya Town is the county headquarters. The county features fertile plains, wetlands and a lakeshore environment that supports agriculture and fishing. The population is predominantly Luo, with rich traditions in music, storytelling and community leadership. Agriculture produces maize, sorghum, millet, cassava, sweet potatoes and sugarcane, while fishing in Lake Victoria, livestock keeping and trade contribute significantly to the economy. Historically, Siaya has produced influential national leaders and continues to play an important role in education, governance and agricultural development.
