About Marsabit County

Marsabit County is Kenya's largest county by land area, bordering Ethiopia, Turkana, Samburu, Isiolo and Wajir. Marsabit Town is the county headquarters. The county features volcanic mountains, deserts, lava plains, forests and the eastern shores of Lake Turkana. Communities including the Borana, Rendille, Gabra, Samburu, Turkana, Burji and El Molo contribute to its rich cultural diversity. Livestock production is the leading economic activity, complemented by fishing, tourism, renewable energy and cross-border trade. Marsabit National Park and the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project are among its notable assets. Historically, the county has served as a crossroads for pastoral communities and trade between Kenya and Ethiopia while preserving unique indigenous cultures.
