Makueni County is headquartered in Wote, and comprises of the following sub-counties; Kaiti, Kibwezi East, Kibwezi West, Kilome, Makueni, Mbooni. Its neighbouring counties are Machakos, Kitui, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, Kajiado. Makueni main economic activities are Fruit farming, livestock, irrigation, trade, mining.

About Makueni County

Makueni County lies in southeastern Kenya, bordering Machakos, Kitui, Taita–Taveta and Kajiado counties. Wote serves as the county headquarters. The county is characterized by semi-arid plains, hills, seasonal rivers and the Chyulu Hills. The population is predominantly Kamba. Agriculture is the backbone of the economy despite variable rainfall, with mangoes, green grams, pigeon peas, maize, sorghum and horticultural crops widely grown. Livestock keeping, beekeeping and small-scale trade also support livelihoods. Makueni is recognized for mango value addition and innovative healthcare initiatives. Rich Kamba traditions are reflected in music, dances, crafts and community ceremonies. Historically, the county formed part of the larger Ukambani region and continues to promote agricultural innovation and community-led development.
