Kakamega County is headquartered in Kakamega, and comprises of the following sub-counties; Butere, Ikolomani, Khwisero, Likuyani, Lugari, Lurambi, Malava, Matungu, Mumias East, Mumias West, Navakholo, Shinyalu. Its neighbouring counties are Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Vihiga, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia. Kakamega main economic activities are Sugarcane, maize, tea, dairy, poultry, forestry, commerce, gold mining.

About Kakamega County

Kakamega County lies in western Kenya, bordering Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Vihiga, Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia counties. Kakamega Town is the county headquarters. Fertile soils and abundant rainfall support sugarcane, maize, tea, dairy farming and horticulture. The county is predominantly inhabited by the Luhya community. Kakamega Forest, Kenya's only tropical rainforest, supports biodiversity, eco-tourism and research. Trade, education and small industries also contribute to economic growth. Historically, the county gained prominence through gold mining and remains an important agricultural and commercial centre.
