Baringo County

Baringo County is headquartered in Kabarnet, and comprises of the following sub-counties; Baringo Central, Baringo North, Baringo South, Mogotio, Eldama Ravine, Tiaty East, Tiaty West. Its neighbouring counties are Turkana, Samburu, Laikipia, Nakuru, Kericho, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot. Baringo main economic activities are Livestock, pastoralism, crop farming (maize, beans, coffee, fruits), fishing, tourism, mining, renewable energy.

The brief

About Baringo County

Baringo County is located in Kenya's Rift Valley region, bordering Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Laikipia, Samburu, Nakuru and Kericho counties. Kabarnet is the county headquarters. The county features highlands, escarpments, semi-arid plains, forests and Lake Baringo, one of Kenya's major freshwater lakes. Communities include the Tugen, Pokot, Ilchamus and Endorois. Agriculture, livestock keeping, fishing, beekeeping and tourism are the principal economic activities. Lake Baringo supports fisheries, birdlife and eco-tourism. Historically, the county has archaeological significance and a long tradition of pastoral livelihoods, while continuing to invest in conservation, agriculture and infrastructure.
