About Vihiga County
Vihiga County is located in western Kenya, bordering Kakamega, Kisumu, Nandi and Siaya counties. Mbale is the county headquarters. Despite its small size, the county has one of Kenya's highest population densities. Fertile soils and reliable rainfall support tea, bananas, maize, vegetables, dairy farming and poultry. The population is predominantly Luhya, especially the Maragoli, Banyore, Tiriki and Batsotso communities. Education, trade and public services complement agriculture. Rich cultural traditions are maintained through music, dance and community ceremonies.
